How does Coffee Wood Marble compare to quartzite?

Quartzite resists acid and does not etch; marble is calcitic and does. That single difference decides kitchens, bathrooms and bar tops. For walls and floors in a dry corridor the figure and the finish decide it, and the marble wins on both.
Three polished stone slabs standing upright in timber frames, wrapped in clear plastic, side by side in a workshop. The faces are a flat grey-brown with fine straight parallel lines running across them, and the overhead lights reflect in long streaks along the polish.
Three slabs standing side by side. The straight parallel figure is what separates this stone from the dramatic veined marbles.
Application image, a design render rather than a photograph. A reception floor with a full-height stone backdrop behind the desk, the counter itself in the same stone, and concealed lighting washing down the wall from above.
The reception at the Qingyi River Hotel, where this stone is the wall behind the desk.

Reference photographs. They show the material and the finish; they are not photographs of goods we made, and the colour on screen is not a colour-match.

The figures, and where each one comes from

Coffee Wood Marble Quartzite
Acid Etches Resists most kitchen acids
Hardness Mohs about 3 Mohs 7 or above
Figure Straight parallel lines in three boards Variable, and no three boards alike
Sealing Periodic impregnating sealer Usually not required
Price Wholesale, by the container Wholesale, and often more

Why it behaves the way it does

A knife dulls on marble and not on quartzite, and that difference is the whole of the argument. Quartzite is the harder stone; marble is the one with the figure and the warmth, and for a vertical surface that is the trade being made.

What these figures are, and what they are not

We supply marble. We do not supply quartzite, and this is not a comparison of our product against another supplier's.
