Why does Coffee Wood Marble come in three colours and not one?

Because the bed is not one colour. The quarry face shows the coffee bed beside white wood grain, grey wood grain and two elegant black beds, and the three boards are three readings of the coffee family rather than one board photographed three ways.
Three polished stone slabs standing upright in timber frames, wrapped in clear plastic, side by side in a workshop. The faces are a flat grey-brown with fine straight parallel lines running across them, and the overhead lights reflect in long streaks along the polish.
Three slabs standing side by side, wrapped, showing how the figure runs across a wide face.
Three polished stone slabs standing side by side in a workshop, wrapped in clear film. These are the flattest and palest faces of the set, with the figure in fine straight lines that barely move across the board.
Three pale slabs in the workshop, with the softest figure of the set.

The figures, and where each one comes from

Board What it is
Dark coffee The deepest and the most strongly banded
Light coffee Pale warm beige, and the softest figure
Dark grey Cooler and higher in contrast
What they have in common The straight parallel figure and the same family

Why it behaves the way it does

The choice between them is about how much the room should say. A pale board in a large lobby is quiet and lets the architecture carry it; a dark one is a decision the room has to live with. Both are the same idea, which is why they are sold as a set of three.

What these figures are, and what they are not

The photographs on this site are of the boards as they came off the saw. The slab you receive is selected from a block, and a block does not repeat exactly.
