Where does Coffee Wood Marble come from?

From a quarry in Guizhou Province in southwest China. It is cut in the same region and processed in Shuitou or Yunfu in Guangdong, and it leaves through Shuitou or Xiamen. The quarry and the processing are two separate places.
A row of roughly six squared stone blocks standing in the sand at the foot of a quarry, each one cut flat and marked with a red number on its face. Behind them the quarry is cut into benches up the hillside, and wind turbines stand on the ridge above under a blue sky.

Reading from the top the marks say: 1 white vein, 2 elegant black, 3 grey wood grain, 4 coffee, 5 elegant black, 6 elegant black, 7 black and white, with the red outline around the overburden at the top of the face. Coffee Wood Marble is the fourth bed down.

The figures, and where each one comes from

Where What happens
Guizhou Province, China Quarrying — the blocks come out of the bed
Shuitou or Yunfu, Guangdong Processing — sawing, polishing, cutting to size
Shuitou or Xiamen port Loading and export

Why it behaves the way it does

Origin and processing are different facts and a buyer who treats them as one fact cannot check either. The quarry is where the stone is; the workshop is where the block becomes a product. They are 1,000 kilometres apart and they are two different businesses.

What these figures are, and what they are not

We do not publish a licence number, a reserve figure or a quarry map. The origin page carries photographs of the ground and the beds marked in the field.

If you are specifying this

We have not published products against this question yet. Send us the process, thickness and quantity and we will quote it against what we can actually form, rather than against a catalogue.
