Sawn, explained

On this stone A standard order on this stone.

How the surface is made

The surface is cut with diamond saw teeth and no further processing. It is rough and irregular, with small furrows, and it is lighter and matte.

What it does to the stone

A raw, directional texture. The stone reads as unworked and structural.

Where it is the right answer

External paving, steps, pathways and driveways; base slabs for further processing; and an industrial or raw architectural look indoors.

On Coffee Wood Marble

Sawn is a safe surface for this stone — it is a cut, not a treatment, and it does not touch the calcite. It is also the surface every other finish starts from, so a sawn face tells you what the block is like before anything is done to it.

The processes above are the trade's descriptions of these finishes. Whether a finish suits this stone is our reading of how a calcite marble behaves under it — we have not run a slip or abrasion test on any of these surfaces, and a floor specification needs the tested wet-DCOF figure for the stone and the finish, which we will supply on request.
