Rough Rubbed, explained

On this stone Made to order, and the block decides. Ask before you specify it.

How the surface is made

A light grind that removes the marks left by the gang saw without fully smoothing the surface. The result sits between a raw face and a honed one.

What it does to the stone

A subtle texture with a natural feel. Barely glossy.

Where it is the right answer

Rustic interiors, loft spaces, and the preparation of a base before further finishing.

On Coffee Wood Marble

A good compromise for a client who wants the stone to look worked rather than polished. It keeps the coffee colour and gives the face something to catch the light on.

The processes above are the trade's descriptions of these finishes. Whether a finish suits this stone is our reading of how a calcite marble behaves under it — we have not run a slip or abrasion test on any of these surfaces, and a floor specification needs the tested wet-DCOF figure for the stone and the finish, which we will supply on request.
