Traditional masonry tools chip the stone with controlled blows, leaving a distinctive rustic relief with irregularities.
A soft, dimpled, almost organic relief. The face reads as hand-worked.
Garden walls, landscape work, rustic feature walls and garden furniture, and traditional or country-style settings.
Achievable on marble but it removes a lot of the surface, so on a dark stone the result is lighter and the base colour reads greyer than the slab. It suits a landscape setting where the stone is being used as it comes out of the ground.
mushroom finish · mushroomed · rustic face · boucharded · boucharde
The processes above are the trade's descriptions of these finishes. Whether a finish suits this stone is our reading of how a calcite marble behaves under it — we have not run a slip or abrasion test on any of these surfaces, and a floor specification needs the tested wet-DCOF figure for the stone and the finish, which we will supply on request.
