The surface on this page has not been photographed on this stone yet, so these are photographs of the stone itself. Ask for a sample of the surface and we will send one.
Photographs of this stone. The colour on screen is not a colour match.
A spiked hammer is worked across the surface, leaving a dense pattern of small dimples — the effect of long-term water erosion, or of the lychee skin it is also called.
A uniform, finely pitted texture. The colour lightens slightly and the vein becomes a tone rather than a line.
Outdoor pathways, pool surrounds, driveways, commercial plazas, and exterior steps where grip matters more than reflection.
This finish is achievable on marble, but the tool marks are permanent and the face takes a lot of labour. On a dark stone the result reads heavy. We can do it, we would quote it as a special order, and we would ask for the block in hand first.
bush hammered · litchi · lychee · litchi finish · pecked · chisel point
The processes above are the trade's descriptions of these finishes. Whether a finish suits this stone is our reading of how a calcite marble behaves under it — we have not run a slip or abrasion test on any of these surfaces, and a floor specification needs the tested wet-DCOF figure for the stone and the finish, which we will supply on request.
